What is a fashion identity?

Simply put it is how a person presents themselves in public through the usage of clothes, accessories, and alterations to physical appearance (facial hair, hair styles, and tattoos). A fashion identity is constructed to display what cannot be simply said via words whether it is wealth, gender identity, social class, or membership in a community.

So how does fashion identity apply to NuevoRatchet? More so, what is NuevoRatchet’s fashion identity? The answer is… we don’t know, it’s an experiment. We can describe the context where our fashion exploration takes place.

We exist in a Southern California military city generally devoid of class and fashion culture. The majority of the populace dresses in hoodies, sweats, sandals, and haircuts are optional and always require a pair of clippers. Color seems to be forbidden with shades of black, brown, and other neutrals. Perhaps this an attempt to be non-differentiated where a person has a high probability of being a target in mass shootings in today’s USA. Either way it’s boring.

This is where we exist and this is what we are going to be creating our fashion identity. Though what are we trying to portray, mainly social differentiation. We want to be different.
